Today, you can't be too careful when it comes to dealing with other people, whether professionally or personally. You can fall privy to certain privileges that come when you take the bait that someone offers in times of pressure. Those privileges may seem good at the time, but can come back to haunt you. It's important to know who to trust and to think about the hazards of hasty decisions.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Consider the source. Ask yourself if you have trusted this person before. If so, remember what the consequences were. These considerations can help you determine whether you should give him another chance.

  2. Step 2

Listen to your gut instincts. You have a built-in conscience that whispers a warning to you when you need it. Make sure you don't shut out that still small voice. It could save your life.

  3. Step 3

Know the person well before you dive in. Carefully consider her reputation. Check the facts of her past dealings and relationships, and never make a decision based on emotion alone.

  4. Step 4

Be patient. Think about it carefully before you make a decision that could lead you to a path of destruction, which may not be easy to detect at first. Acting on impulse does not usually pay off in the end.

  5. Step 5

Seek the input of those you do trust. Ask them if they would go forward in your situation. Even if it's the answer you don't want to hear, make sure you listen to them to avoid regret.
