  1. Step 1

Start Adobe Photoshop CS3 and open an existing document from you files that contains multiple layers what you would like to link together.

  2. Step 2

Display the Layers Palette if necessary, by choosing the "Window" menu and clicking on "Layers" to open it onto the Photoshop screen.

  3. Step 3

Click to select the first layer that you want to link with another layer in the Layers Palette. The layer will be in dark gray once it is selected.

  4. Step 4

Hold down the CTRL key on your keyboard and click another layer in the Layers Palette that you want to link to the layer you already have selected.

  5. Step 5

Continue to click any additional layers that you want to link together by clicking them in the Layers Palette while holding down the CTRL key. All the layers you want to link together should now be highlighted in dark gray.

  6. Step 6

Use the "Link Layers" button at the bottom of the Layers Palette to link together the layers you have selected. The "Link Layers" button is the first button and is in the shape of a chain link. Once pressed, the layers you have selected will display a chain link after the name in the Layers Palette.
