Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Adobe Photoshop CS3
  1. Step 1

Start Adobe Photoshop CS3 and open an existing document from your files that contains a layer to which you would like to add a multicolor wash.

  2. Step 2

Select the layer in the Layers Palette that you would like to apply the multicolor wash to by clicking on it. The layer will become a dark gray once it is selected.

  3. Step 3

Click on the "Create new fill or adjustment layer" button at the bottom of the Layers Palette. It is the middle button depicted by circle divided by two. Choose "Gradient" from the pop-up menu to open the "Gradient Fill" dialog box.

  4. Step 4

Decide the gradient you want to use for the multicolor wash from the "Gradient" drop-down list of presets. If you want to edit one of the presets you can click on it again, and the "Gradient Editor" dialog box will open. In this dialog box, you can edit the preset gradient.

  5. Step 5

Choose a "Style," "Angle" and "Scale" for the gradient using the settings in the "Gradient Fill" dialog box. You can also choose to "Reverse," "Dither" and/or "Align with Layer." Click the "OK" button to close the dialog box and return to your Photoshop document.

  6. Step 6

Create a new layer in the Layers Palette and go through the steps to create a new adjustment layer. Add a different type of gradient with a different style, angle and scale. You can now see that the two gradients come together in the document to create a multicolor wash.
