Things You'll Need:
- Adobe Photoshop CS3
-
Step 1
Start Adobe Photoshop CS3 and open an existing document to which you want to add a gradient you want to change the opacity of or start a new, blank document.
-
Step 2
Select the "Gradient Tool" from the Photoshop toolbox on the left side of the screen. Your cursor will turn into a crosshair. Notice that the settings for gradients will appear just below the menu bar in the options bar at the top of the Photoshop screen.
-
Step 3
Choose a gradient preset from the "Gradient Picker" drop-down list, a type of gradient from the gradient buttons and a blending mode from the options bar.
-
Step 4
Use the checkbox for "Transparency" from the options bar to turn off the transparency for the gradient. This will give you 100 percent opacity for your gradient, if that's what you would like to use. By default, all gradients have a certain degree of transparency so you must uncheck this option if you don't want any transparency.
-
Step 5
Type a percentage in the "Opacity" text box or use the slider to set the opacity for the gradient you are going to create. The higher the number, the less transparent the gradient will be.
-
Step 6
Click and drag on your Photoshop document to create the gradient. The size of the gradient will be dependent on how far you drag your mouse from the starting point.
-
Step 7
Release the mouse and view your gradient with the modified opacity.
