How to Get Over Fear of Asking People for Things
When asking for things, many people have trouble getting the words out. It may be the way you were raised, or you may just have problems knowing how to ask for things without coming across as rude or demanding. Getting over your fear of asking people for things isn't something that happens overnight, but with a little determination and practice, you should be able to get what you want.

Get to the root of the issue. If you have a fear of asking people for things, particularly money, it's important to look at your upbringing for clues as to why you feel the way you do. Maybe your parents were dead set against handouts when you were a child, so now you think any favors or gifts are bad or wrong somehow. Once you know why you feel the way you do, you can work toward changing it.

Think about the purpose behind the request. To get over a fear of asking people for things, you have to stop and consider what you're asking for and why. If, for instance, you're asking friends and family for hand-me-down clothes for your children, don't think of it as asking for a handout; think of it as recycling. They can't use the clothing anymore, and by taking it off their hands you're extending the life of those clothes and reducing waste.

Practice makes perfect. The first few times you ask for help, it can be intimidating. But the more you do it, the easier it will become.

When you have the opportunity, give back. Everyone needs something at one point or another, and it may be hard to admit that. You can soften the emotional blow by giving back whenever you're at a place in your life to do so. Loan a friend money, donate clothing or furniture to charity, or help out a friend in need.
