Trillian is a convenient messaging software package that allows you to combine most (if not all) of your various messaging service accounts into a single interface. Trillian offers both a free Basic version and a Pro version of its software. The Pro version offers additional features including the Word Matching feature, which instructs Trillian to perform some event when it registers a particular word.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Step1
Get Trillian Pro if you only have the Basic version. Only Trillian Pro supports the Word Matching feature.
Step2
Click on the "Preferences" menu and go to "Word Matching" under "Windows" if you have version 2.0 or earlier. If you have version 3.0 or newer, go to "Automation" under "Advanced Preferences."
Step3
Add a new Word Matching event. By clicking "Add," you can open a new window that allows you to specify the type of word matching you want Trillian to do.
Step4
Choose the word that you want Trillian to check for, as well as the event that you want Trillian to initiate when it discovers the word. This event can be a sound or other action. You also have to specify the medium to which the event applies.
Step5
Let Trillian do the searching. As long as you enter everything correctly, Trillian will perform the specified event whenever it detects the word you entered in the medium you specified.

Tips & Warnings

  • Run a check of the Word Matching event before you rely on it, just to make sure that you entered the information correctly. To do this, you can simply ask a chat buddy to send you a message with the particular word, or use one of your own accounts to message yourself (if you have multiple accounts).
