Step1
Every state in the United States has at least one unusual, eccentric, or downright weird museum, roadside attraction, or tourist attraction.
That means there is probably some odd little tourist attraction very close to your home.
An interesting attraction I recently heard about is the Solar Powered Carousel at Hopland California. I love carousels, but hadn't known that they could be powered by the sun before this.
It usually doesn't cost very much to take in the sights at one of these oddball attractions, and some of them are even free, like the replica of Stonehenge located on the Washington side of the Columbia river near Maryhill, Washington.
The Stonehenge replica sits on the top of a barren hill far from the original Stonehenge in the green fields of England. It's strangely impressive though, and easy to get to as it is right off I-84, which is on the Oregon side of the Columbia river, with a bridge across the river so you can get to the Stonehenge Replica without much trouble.
Step2
Some unusual things you might want to check out include the London Bridge, now, oddly, located in Arizona, and the Ice Hotel in Alaska.
See Resources below for web sites that list a wide variety of unusual roadside and tourist attractions.
Step3
Some of these unusual attractions are barely known outside of their local area though, and they might not be listed on the web sites. Instead you'll need to keep your eyes and ears open when out and about, on the alert for any unusual attractions you might find, or hear about.
