A pool is a fun accessory for any family or individual. They are wonderful for relaxing and playing in during those hot summer months. Before purchasing, you need to take the size and type of pool into consideration. Also, decide on how much you can spend on a pool. Having an above-ground pool is great for temporary situations, especially if you rent. Below are some pointers that can help you make a purchase on your above-ground pool.

From Quick Guide: Above Ground Pool Tutorial
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Measure the size of your yard to determine the size of pool that you need. Find the best spot in your yard to put it where it would have plenty of sun, and not too much shade.

  2. Step 2

Decide how deep you would like your pool to be. If you plan to just use it to relax in, a 3- to 5-foot pool would be a great size. If it will be for exercising, then anything more than 5 feet would be best. Keep in mind that, if you have young children, you need a pool that wouldn't be too deep for them to play in.

  3. Step 3

Determine your budget and how much you would like to spend on your pool. Watch for sales, or try to purchase your pool out of season when it would be less expensive. Find pools that have filters, pumps and other tools that make it easier for self cleaning if you don't want to have a lot of extra work involved.

  4. Step 4

Check with your local city ordinances to see if you would need any kind of fencing around your pool for safety reasons. If you rent your home, be sure your landlord is OK with having a pool in the yard as well.

  5. Step 5

Compare different brands of pools to see which kind fits you and your family. Speak with other family members, friends or neighbors who have had similar pools before you make your decision. Ask them about the upkeep, and how well the pool stayed together and if it easily made holes or had leaks.

  6. Step 6

Talk with your family before making the final purchase on your pool. Be sure that it will be something that everybody can enjoy happily and safely.

Tips & Warnings
  • Always be present when young children are in the pool. Be sure they are wearing the proper accessories such as floatees, life vests and other protective material. Never leave a young child in water by themselves.
  • Keep a cover on the pool when you are not around. Small children or animals could get into the pool. Keeping a cover on your pool also helps keep it clean.
