The number of accidents involving injuries can skyrocket during a rain storm. Driving in the rain doesn't need to be dangerous, but it can be if you are not familiar with it or don't follow a few simple rules.

From Quick Guide: All-Wheel Drive 101
Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Don't be in a big hurry. It's more important that you get to your destination safely than not at all.

  2. Step 2

Go easy around corners and curves. Water might be deeper than it looks and you could hydroplane.

  3. Step 3

Tailgating is never a good idea, and especially not when it is raining. Give yourself plenty of room between your car and the car in front of you in case you need to stop suddenly.

  4. Step 4

Stay away from puddles as you can hydroplane in as little as a half an inch of water. Plus, the seemingly harmless puddle might be a mean pothole, which could cause you to lose control of your vehicle.

  5. Step 5

If your car starts to skid, don't step on your brakes, as tempting as that might be. Instead, turn your steering wheel into the skid so that you can regain control.

Tips & Warnings
  • A good rain repellent on your windshield will help you see the road more clearly.
