You'll learn to fry papadam with 2 to 3 tablespoon of oil and a mini seasoning frying pan.This may be necessary when you're having a beer/scotch and want something to nibble. In other word you just want to fry one or two papadams. Trivia :Papadam is a loan word from the Malayalam language, which itself is derived from the Tamil language. Appalam is the pure Tamil equivalent. Appadam is the word for papad in Telugu. In the Kannada language, common in the Dakshina Kannada district, a pappad is referred to as a "happala," and is often made with black gram, jackfruit, and sabudana. The word papad occurs in a Hindi tongue twister - "Kachaa paapad, Pakaa paapad" (raw papad, fried/roasted papad), something similar to "Good blood, Bad blood".

Things You’ll Need:

  • A few ready made papadams
  • A small frying pan as big/small as a ladle which is used for seasoning curries
  • 2 to 3 tablespoon of frying oil (any vegetable/canola oil will do)
Step1
Put the mini frying pan on the burner and heat oil.
Step2
Papadam flakes Take a papadam fold it into half then fold that again into half and that again into half.You'll get 8 triangles.
By now the oil may smoke.Put off the burner.
Step3
Frying Papadum Fluffing Flakes Just slide the stack of flakes into the oil.It'll just fluff up.Remove the pan by the handle using your left hand and with a fork in the right hand transfer the fried flakes on to a plate lined with a paper napkin.
Take the plate onto the table pour yourself a stiff one on rocks,sip and watch the TV!

Tips & Warnings

  • see that the frying pan is dry and so also the fork.Otherwise the oil may splutter in your face.
  • Since the frying pan is mini see that it doesn't overturn and set the cooking range ablaze
  • Till the operation is over don't attend to anything else like answering the mobile or the call bell.
  • Thankfully when your frying in a jiffy no brats,cats and pets are likely to be around!Thank the Lord for small mercies!
