Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Step1
Contact your local community action agency, township. or city building and inquire about the Home Weatherization program. This program will help replace or put in a new furnace, replace or put in new windows, insulation, and any other ways that your home needs to be made weatherproof.
Step2
Study the guidelines for the weatherization program. You must meet certain income standards to be able to sign up and be approved for the home weatherization program. For example, a household of one, can make up to $15,315 per year. A household of 2 can make up to $20, 535, and a household of three can have up to $25, 755 income per year.
Step3
Bring in the necessary forms when it is time to apply. You will need proof of the past 90 days income, recent utility bill, proof of ownership of your home, and social security cards for everybody in the household.
Step4
Wait for your letter of approval. For some areas, the wait may be longer than others. Sometimes it takes up to a year or more before construction begins. Be patient, and be available when contractors are able to come to your house to assess everything that needs to be done.
Step5
Do not feel ashamed for signing up for home weatherization. The program is excellent for new homeowners who aren't able to afford the necessary work that needs to be done to weatherize their home.
