How to use 10 Microsoft Windows Shortcut Keys

Top 10 list of Shortcut Key combinations that will make your Windows experience better.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • At least 2 fingers or toes
  • Keyboard
  • working computer running Windows.
  1. Step 1

    1. Ctrl + C: copies the currently selected item
    2. Ctrl + V: pastes the current contents of the clipboard (Use with Ctrl + C)
    3. Ctrl + X: cuts the currently selected item and puts it in the clipboard (Use with Ctrl + V)
    4. Ctrl + S: Save use this anytime you want to save a document. I make it a practiace as soon as I start a project I give it a name and save it, and from there on out use Ctrl + S to save every 3 to 5 minutes into the document.
    5. Alt + Tab: shuffle through your currently open programs
    6. Ctrl + A: select all. Works wonderfully in a document, web pages or file explorer
    7. Windows Logo+D: Minimizes all open windows and displays the desktop
    8. Windows Logo+E: Windows Explorer
    9. Windows Logo+L: Lock your machine (password protect)
    10. ALT+F4: Quit program

  2. Step 2

    Ahh, What the heck here are some more.


    11. Windows Logo + R: Takes you to the command prompt.
    12. Ctrl + Tab: switch between windows in the same program. Now that IE7 has tabs, everyone should know this.
    13. Ctrl + Esc: Before the Windows Logo Key, this is how we opened the Start Menu :) Works on other OS too!
    14. F1: HELP....
    15. Tab: That's right. Plain old Tab. Tab between fields rather than using your mouse to click on them it speeds the process up.

on 4/3/2009 The Ctrl C and the Ctrl V - have been the most useful tool I know working with computer. My husband taught me that one. I didn't know about the Ctrl X shortcut will give that one a try. Very helpful information. If you are not using shortcuts, try these, you'll wonder why you never used them before.
