Things You'll Need:
- An improv troupe
- A chair
-
Step 1
Get a scene suggestion from the audience, and have three players start a scene. At the beginning of the scene, one player must be standing, one player must be sitting, and one player must be lying down.
-
Step 2
Players must make sure that for the entire duration of the scene, precisely one character is standing, one is sitting, and one is lying down. This means that whenever a player changes position, one of the other players must also change position to maintain the balance.
-
Step 3
Watch any player moving into the position you currently occupy. If you are standing and another player stands up, you must then take over her old position, be it sitting or lying down.
-
Step 4
Don't blindly follow the above rule. As an alternative, if the sitting player takes your standing position, you can decide to lie down instead, thereby causing the lying player to take the sitting position. Whenever anyone's position changes, both other players should be paying close attention.
-
Step 5
Give and take in the direction of positions. Sometimes you should change positions and force the other players to quickly adapt to your new position, but sometimes you should just be pliant and ready to sit or stand based on what the other players do. The key to the game is knowing your fellow players and being able to figure out (without talking about it) who should move to what position when.
