Avoid the sun and do not use tanning booths or sun lamps. Tanning increases one’s risk of developing melanoma and other skin cancers. Additionally, some acne treatments can increase the skin's sensitivity to sunlight and ultraviolet light from tanning booths and sun lamps. If you have acne, it is important to protect your skin by following sun-protection practices, such as wearing sunscreen and avoiding sunburns.

Diode lasers on another hand can destroy sebaceous glands in the dermis, the thick middle layer of skin, without harming the outer layer of skin. Laser treatment may be painful, but the pain can be controlled with analgesics applied to the skin before treatment

Cosmetic procedure is another way to decrease your acne. Chemical peels and Microdermabrasion are two types of treatment performed by cosmetologists and help to exfoliate and unclog pores.

Many doctors prefer combination therapies like retinoids and oral antibiotics. Retinoids (Vitamin A) work by promoting cell turnover and preventing the plugging of the hair follicle. Oral antibiotics kill P. acnes bacteria and reduce inflammation.

Another acne curing method is by using benzoyl peroxide and topical antibiotics. Benzoyl peroxide is most effective if it's combined with antibiotics applied to your skin (topical antibiotics). Benzoyl peroxide can dry up the oil, kill bacteria and promote sloughing of dead skin cells. Topical antibiotics can kill bacteria on the skin's surface and fight inflammation.
