How to Stop Moth Damage to Your Clothes

If moths are a problem in your home, you need to protect your clothing and linens from damage. Mothballs will keep away moths, but they won't kill moth eggs in the garments, so you'll need to follow these steps to ensure you don't end up with moth damage to your clothing and linens.

Things You'll Need:

  • Clean clothing and linens
  • Storage boxes
  1. Step 1

    Make sure your clothes are clean before you store them away.

  2. Step 2

    Dry-clean your garments if you suspect there are moth eggs in them. Dry cleaning will kill the eggs.

  3. Step 3

    Rotate your clothing and linens, even if you're not using them.

  4. Step 4

    Shake out clothing and linens, refold and reposition in the closet or storage box.

  5. Step 5

    Make sure there is no dust or lint in the storage box or closet. Moths can breed in dust and lint.

  6. Step 6

    Always keep fresh mothballs in your closets and storage boxes.
