Step 1
Walk carefully as you look for the Egyptian cobra. The Egyptian cobra is certainly a snake that is a social problem in Africa. While the snake kills many people, it is also a very important factor in controlling the rodent population. This is a very tough problem for the villagers there.

Observe that the Egyptian cobra is generally about 5-6 feet in length, though they can grow much larger. The snake is built very sturdy, and of course, has the trademark hood common to the cobra family. When disturbed this snake will raise up and spread the hood wide to warn off predators or intruders.

Pursue the Egyptian cobra from a safe distance. The Egyptian cobra is one to run and hide given the chance. It would much rather save its venom for the prey that it eats which include rats, mice, other snakes, chickens, and many others. This is part of the reason for so many contacts with humans. The Egyptian cobra will come looking for domestic animals to eat, or the rats and mice that are attracted to the trash.

Exterminate all potential prey. The Egyptian cobra is the most common cobra in Africa. It can be found throughout Africa as well as the Middle East and this is one of the few ways to minimize contact with humans.

Give this snake a wide berth. This snake is not one to be trifled with. If you come across an Egyptian cobra, let it go on its way. Generally an Egyptian cobra will move away from humans given the chance.
