How to Get a Goat Into a Trailer
The goat needs to go to the fair but it seems like a million miles between him standing there chewing his grass and the trailer you have to haul him in. You can turn that million miles into a few inches with some simple steps that help get a goat into a trailer.
Things You'll Need
- Goat
- Trailer
- Food and treats
- Blankets inside trailer
- Board to act as ramp
Instructions
-
-
1
Park the trailer at the gate with its doors opened so the goat can easily walk on in when it gets to that point.
-
2
Use a board as a ramp so the goat can climb in easily and make the trailer’s interior a cozy haven of blankets and treats.
-
-
3
Go up to the goat, talk lovingly, sooth him, and offer his favorite food. My goats would simply adore corn muffins.
-
4
Walk backwards away from the goat and towards the trailer, keeping the food in his line of sight and offering him nibbles so he stays interested.
-
5
Coax him with the food into the trailer, giving him the lion’s share once he is firmly inside.
-
6
Shut the trailer door and skedaddle.

Tips & Warnings
If your goat is wise to the trailer, you may want to park it at the ready several days before you actually need it so he begins to ignore it being there.
If you have more than one goat to get into the trailer, try to get them all interested in the food at once and move as a unit into the trailer.
When that doesn’t work, get a helper to stay on the trailer and tether the goats in, while the goats continue to get big clumps of food.
Never try to chase a goat into the trailer. You’ll never catch him, he’ll do everything in the world to avoid the trailer doors and he’ll get so freaked out he’ll never want to go near the trailer again for his entire goaty life.
