Things You'll Need:
- An improv group
-
Step 1
Ask your audience for genre suggestions. If your audience is not familiar with this game, give them examples such as "Romance", "Sci-Fi", and "Film Noir". A member of your troupe who is not playing in the scene should serve as MC and write down the genres shouted out by the audience. Continue collecting suggestions until you have a dozen or so.
-
Step 2
Shout out your own suggestion if necessary. While this should not be done often, if the audience is not giving good suggestions, this is a good way to ensure you have some usable genres. Since the suggestions are supposed to come from the audience, players doing this may wish to shout out of the side of their mouths and pretend the audience suggested it.
-
Step 3
Begin a standard scene, with a location/relationship/occupation/etc. suggested by the audience. Your scene should develop naturally for 20-30 seconds or so, until enough has been established for your MC to break in.
-
Step 4
The MC should interrupt the scene, ideally with a bell or buzzer, and shout out one of the genres that was suggested by the audience (while crossing it off the list). The scene then continues in this genre, with actors attempting to maintain the storyline/relationship/etc. that was set up, but doing so while acting in the suggested genre.
-
Step 5
After the MC decides that the new genre has been sufficiently explored (usually no more than 15-30 seconds), repeat step 4 again. Continue doing this until the scene comes to a natural close, at which point the MC should ring the bell/buzzer and simply announce the ending of the game.
