Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Hiring a Caregiver
Step1
Schedule interviews with several people who seem to provide good qualifications. To find people to interview, talk to local hospitals, care facilities, place ads in the paper or network with others who have similar needs. Even your doctor's office can help you to find a caregiver to hire for at home help.
Step2
Investigate references and past employment of each individual. They should have a license and a history of working in the industry. Contact references and employers to ask about the quality of service. If allowable in your state, request a background check on the individual to ensure there are no reasons to be concerned.
Step3
Establish what you need and what you'll give to the caregiver. During an interview of a caregiver, be sure to ask questions about their abilities and let them know what tasks they will be responsible for. Outline a working schedule for the caregiver, giving them time off, hours of employment as well as compensation you are willing to pay.
Step4
Lay out the rules for the job include discipline and expectations of quality work. In a contract, outline wages, other benefits and the requirements of the caregiver working in a home. Additionally, include details of how disciplinary treatment will be done, such as neglect.
Step5
Keep the lines of communication open, listening to the care giver's opinions, information and needs. Be sure to use cameras, as well as simply talking to the patient to insure all needs are met.
