How to Do Basic Shuffles in Tap Dance

  1. Step 1

Put on your tap shoes and head to a ballet bar. When you're standing at a ballet bar, put your left hand on the bar and shuffle with the right foot, or vice versa for balance.

  2. Step 2

Scuff your foot forward. Your heel should not touch the ground.

  3. Step 3

Snap your foot back. This will complete the shuffle. It should be a continuous movement.

  4. Step 4

Listen to how the step sounds as you shuffle. It should sound like "shuf--fle" as you tap. Say the first syllable as you scuff your foot forward and the last syllable when you snap your foot back.
