The easiest way to find articles about psychology is on the internet, but you have to be careful about which websites you visit because the information could be bogus. The article will help guide you to find the articles you are looking for.

Instructions

    • 1

Use an academic search engine like EBSCO host. EBSCO requires a password to log on, but many schools and Universities offer this for free. Use the major search engines as a last resort.

    • 2

Load the EBSCO search website and click the link to choose your databases.

    • 3

Find and choose the best two psychology databases on there: PsycINFO and PsycARTICLES.

    • 4

Also add the Academic Search Premier because that will provide you with a lot of extra articles that the other two may have missed.

    • 5

Check the box next to each of these databases and then click the continue tab that can be found at the top or the bottom of the page.

    • 6

Scroll the pages. A page will load that presents your search options. The default section will load the basic search, which still has a lot of options.

    • 7

Notice that, before you type in any of your search results, you need to select the box that says “Linked Full Text”. This will allow you to avoid getting search results that have no article attached.

    • 8

Type in your search by using the simplest terms possible. For example if you searching roles between males and females within gambling, you should cut the search down to gender and gambling. Your results will load after you typed in the term, showcasing ten results per page.

    • 9

Click on the link when you find the title you are looking for, and a window will load. This window features the abstract of the article, with a link to the full article at the top of the page.

    • 10

Expand your results to include or exclude certain phrases if you do not find what you are looking for. There is also a yellow box on the left of the search results that will give you recommended categories that you can find articles under.
