Step 1
Decide how many plates you will allow yourself. You might determine that one plate is really all you need, or maybe you will go for two. Limit yourself before you even get started.
-
Step 2
Browse the buffet with your hands in your pockets. Look over all the choices. Decide what looks to good to pass up, and think about items you might mindlessly put on your plate that you don't absolutely love. After you have made your decisions, pick up a plate.
-
Step 3
Fill your plate two-thirds full of healthy choices. Most buffets offer a variety of fresh fruits and veggies; these are great plate fillers.
-
Step 4
Have a conversation with your table-mates and realize that it doesn't have to be all about the food, Put down the fork between bites, and when you put something in your mouth be very mindful about it. Think about the taste and texture as you chew. You might not like it as much as you think, and at the very least will become full faster.

Step 5
Rather than waste calories on sugary soft drinks, drink water with your meal. This will help you fill up faster, too.
