Grooming homeschooled children to becoming tomorrow's entrepreneurs can be the most rewarding part of a parent's life, as you prepare them to run their own small business starting from home to their own corporate office!

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

As a parent, if you are not an entrepreneur in principle, but are in spirit, then your children can be educated to make everyone’s dreams come true. Tracking down the proper resources to get homeschooled students on the road to entrepreneurial success--beyond the old-fashioned lemonade stand--can be found in abundance online.

  2. Step 2

Young entrepreneurs share their ideas with others to inspire them in their dream and to get help creating ideas that will make that dream come true. Journaling for homeschooling students gets them in the habit of sharing ideas or thoughts even if it’s just with themselves at first. The next step comes when they are given assignments to share ideas about how to run a candy store, for instance, and what would be required to be successful in this sample business.

  3. Step 3

The entrepreneurs of tomorrow have to be taught how to handle money--how to count it, when to spend it, when to save it and generally how to budget. While some parents give their children allowances, the old school way was if your homework and chores are done, then you get paid. The allowance was enough to teach children how to save, and you were only allowed to spend it on things you needed. This is the proper way to get Budgeting 101 started and completed for young entrepreneurs.

  4. Step 4

Planning is the foundation of any business, no matter what the size. Educating homeschoolers in day planning will lay a solid foundation for them to start focusing on business planning when the time is right. For pre-teens, get them started on day planning ASAP, and make it a daily habit for the future. Teenagers should be started on the same day planning track for about a month and then download sample business plans for them to play with and turn in for homework.

Tips & Warnings
  • There are over 30 sites online to help get business plans and guidance for teen entrepreneurs, but parents should start with the SBA (see Resources below).
  • Junior Achievement may seem like a thing of the past, but it can start young entrepreneurs on a better foundation to success (see Resources below).
