First things first, wash your hair. A lot of people are worried about their afro shrinking after you wash your hair, buy there's no need to worry about that with this procedure.

  2. Step 2

After washing your hair, towel dry it for a little while, and get the blow dryer when it's slightly dry.

  3. Step 3

While blow drying your hair, take the pick and comb your hair in an upward motion. As you comb your hair up, you'll be drying that part with the blow-dryer. I recommend using the medium heat setting. Repeat this step all over your hair until hair is dry ENOUGH.

  4. Step 4

Now, pick your entire hair out and grab a ruler. measure how long your hair is before you trim it.

  5. Step 5

However long your hair was, you will be trimming off 1/2 inch if you want it to grow, but only 1 inch if you don't want it to grow. The parts sticking out shouldn't stick out more than 1/2 inch unless you've done some terrible things to your hair in the past. Best results are with clippers, but this can be done with scissors.

  6. Step 6

Spray the afro sheen to condition your hair and to give it a nice shine. If you follow this procedure correctly, then your afro should be nice and even, and you should repeat this step every 2 weeks to a month.

Tips & Warnings
  • Some people may have a different hair texture than myself, so to be on the safe side, Get some heat protector for your hair when you do the blow-drying part.
  • Best results are with clippers, but this can be done with scissors.
  • This is very similar to trimming regular hair, but this further details the aspect of the afro.
  • The reason that I put ENOUGH in all caps in step three is because drying your hair to much can make it to soft, or even damage your ends, so be mindful of that.

on 11/6/2008 I could have used this info about a week ago. My son finally cut off all of his unruly afro. I think he was going for the 'unkept' look. It was probably some sort of hip-hop fad but luckily a cute girl suggested that he look better with a fade w/ waves. He listened:)
