Things You'll Need:
- chin length hair
- hair cutting scissors
- 4 duck bill hair clips
- cutting comb
- blow dryer
- light styling gel or styling creme
-
Step 1
Comb the hair in it's natural falling position (straight in the back, down on the sides and the front) Place the comb on the top of the head and where the comb is balanced, this will be our starting reference point. From this point section using a diagonal line from our reference point to the outside of the left eye. Draw another diagonal line from the reference point to the outside of the right eye creating a triangle in the top front area of the head.
-
Step 2
Pinch this triangle section together, slightly pull down to the bridge of the nose, too much tension will cause the hair to spring up and be shorter than desired. With the hair pinched together ( this should be about an inch to inch and a half across, cut straight across, this will give us a nice angle on the sides when the hair is combed back in natural fall as well as determines our shortest lenght in the cut.
-
Step 3
Using VERTICAL sections we can begin the haircut on the right or left side. Begin by sectioning 1/4 to 1/2 inch vertical sections incorporating the longest piece that was previously cut from our triangle section. (this would be the longest piece that is at the corner of the eye) This piece will serve as our "guide" to establish our layered length throughout the design. Comb the hair in a VERTICAL section and lift STRAIGHT out from the head, do not overdirect back or foward or elevate the hair higher than the top of the head. Continue the 1/2 inch VERTICAL sectioning and cutting around the entire head from the left corner eye to the right corner eye.
-
Step 4
With our layers cut, we can determine the overall length at this point. Most of this will just be a "clean up" rather than a hard line haircut. Using the comb with very little tension, comb the hair in the back straight down, the head should be in a straight up right postion. With comb tension only "chip" or point cut the desired length. This will give us nice blendable ends rather than a hard line.
-
Step 5
For the sides, again comb down straight using a diagonal line with comb tension only. The comb should be pointing down towards the back edge and up towards the face conecting our piece at the corner of the eye. The comb should look like a foward slash on both sides "/" Hair should be falling just over the ear lobe. Again, chip or point cut into the length to create a softer line.
-
Step 6
Apply light styling gel or styling creme in damp hair, and blow dry forward using only your fingers. At the fringe area push over with the blowdryer pointed down and back so as not to create any volume. Because of the way this is cut it can be dryed using a right or left parting.
-
Step 7
Complete the finish with a light styling creme just on the ends of the fingers to create seperation and movement. The overall finish is to look like it hasn't been finished.
