A fresh salad can be a tasty and healthy meal or snack. Unfortunately, lettuce can wilt very quickly unless cared for properly. Here's how to keep lettuce from wilting.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Wash fresh lettuce thoroughly to remove any surface bacteria or pesticide residues.

  2. Step 2

    Dry the lettuce by patting it dry with a paper towel or spinning it in a salad spinner.

  3. Step 3

    Wrap a dry paper towel around the root of the lettuce to absorb any excess moisture and place it into an air tight recloseable plastic bag.

  4. Step 4

    Place the air tight plastic bag into a vegetable crisper in your refrigerator to keep the lettuce from wilting.

Tips & Warnings
  • Buy organic lettuce to reduce your risk of exposure to pesticide residues.
  • If cared for properly, you can keep lettuce from wilting for up to ten days.
