Going to the doctor's office for an appointment about sever physical pain can be frightening experience it is even more so, when the doctor comes back to you without and answer to what's causing the symptoms. He always says, " I'm referring you to a specialist!" That exactly is what happened to me. I was diagnosed with CMT in 1973, after several visits to Boston's Children's Hospital, by the Orthopedist doctor who was familiar with CMT. The following symptoms described below should be evaluated by a specialist who has knowledge of CMT.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1
    Rolled feet
    Rolled feet

High arched feet with curled up toes. These conditions caused my feet to roll outward when I walked, thus creating callouses on the ball and heel of my feet.

  2. Step 2
    Stork gait
    Stork gait

Walked with a stork like gait I was only able to walk for short distances (approximately less the quarter of a mile) for not more than ten minutes each time.

  3. Step 3

I walked with a slightly hunched over back.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you have these symptoms see your primary care doctor and have him refer you to a specialist who has knowledge about CMT. An area to start looking for doctor's could be: Orthopedist, Podiatrist and or a Neurologist. These doctor's could do specialized tests on you to find out what type of CMT that you have since there are two types.
  • Never feel afraid of knowing the truth about CMT because there has been so many advances in the area. Knowing what you can and can not do with CMT can make your life much more freeing and easier to manage.
