This is an old PA Dutch recipe for what our family called pot pie. Some people call it dumplings. Anyhow, its good for filling the tummy and relatively cheap to make. Home cooked hearty meal. I always have bread and butter pickles or a coleslaw type dish with this to add kick.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

  • Rolling pin
  • eggs
  • flour
  • milk
  • Meat of choice: beef roast, chicken, or ham
  • salt
  • pepper

Step1
This recipe will be for a single serving. You will have to make it according to your needs.
Step2
In a stock pot, place meat of choice, again do this according to the size of crowd you want to serve. I am doing it for 1 serving. So if you are using chicken... 1- thigh leg combination. For Beef 1/2 lb of beef. For Ham 1/2 pound of Ham chunked.
Boil meat till meat is completely tender. If you meat is on a bone. Remove meat from the bone after the meat is cooked.
Step3
In the meantime mix together 1 large egg, 2 tbsp milk and 1 cup of flour. Mix these together. Roll out on floured surface till about 1/8 thick, roughly. Cut dough into squares. I cut mine about 2 inch by 2 inch. After cutting into squares, place in boiling broth. Once all dough is added it takes about 10 to 15 minutes to cook the dough.

Serve. This is a single serving.
