Things You'll Need:
- Scissors
- Pen
- Notebook
-
Step 1
Pile all your old cards in one place. Take a pair of scissors and cut them in half and then through your account number.
-
Step 2
Do not give away any personal card information unless it is a company you trust. If they seem suspicious ask for their company information and ask for a number to call them back. Call your credit card company or look online about that company to check if it is a scam.
-
Step 3
Save your receipts to keep a record of your charges you have made and shred the carbon copies.
-
Step 4
Do not sign a Debt slip or any blank charges. Draw a line through the blank spaces on Debit slips, blank charges, and total to prevent adjustments not made by you.
-
Step 5
Use a notebook to keep a record of dates, totals, and your charges. Use that to check your monthly bill statements to see if thee are any unauthorized charges. If so, you need to report it immediately.
-
Step 6
Only carry with you the cards that you will use. That way, if they are stolen they will take all of your cards.
