Don't toss an overly-ripe banana. Use it to make a low-fat milk shake. The frothy blend tastes sweet without sugar, so it's guilt-free.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • very ripe banana(s)
  • milk (skim for low-cal)
  • cinnamon
  • nutmeg
  • vanilla (optional)

Step1
Save overly-ripe bananas. Don't worry if it's bruised or turning brown. They get sweeter as they ripen. Use one in the milk shake.
Step2
Save excess bananas in the freezer for later use. Peel them and put them in freezer storage bags or storage containers.
Step3
Put the peeled banana, 8 ounces of skim milk, a dash of cinnamon and nutmeg and a splash of vanilla in a blender. The amount of spices isn't crucial, just a little for flavoring.
Step4
Blend on high until frothy and thick.
Step5
Pour it into your favorite glass and enjoy.

Tips & Warnings

  • Don't add sugar. It's naturally sweet.
  • For extra nutrition, add some soy powder.
  • Don't be tempted to add ice cream or whipped cream. It tastes great without all that extra sugar, fat and calories.

on 5/17/2008 Good article. This is similar to what I do when my daughter wants a milkshake. I take Light Chocolate Soymilk and frozen banana and blend together. For mine I add cinnamon. Sometimes we add other frozen fruit too!
