Things You'll Need:
- A sense of adventure
-
Step 1
Try to meet new people every day. It can be easy to keep to yourself (or yourselves if you’re not traveling solo) on a trip, but meeting new people can truly be one of the most interesting parts of any getaway.
-
Step 2
Go someplace different! So many people, families in particular, can fall into the pattern of going to the same place every year for their big vacation. Throw caution to the winds and go to a locale you’ve never been; it will at least be memorable and probably more.
-
Step 3
Add an element of uncertainty to your traveling if possible. A set itinerary can be reassuring to some, but it takes away the flexibility of suddenly exploring something different that you come across.
-
Step 4
Try group travel if that’s not your usual mode of doing things. You’ll meet more people, do things you might not have done and experience a camaraderie that can liven up a trip.
-
Step 5
Do something that tests your limits. If you’re afraid of heights, for example, you don’t have to try something like skydiving—but at least give bungee jumping or a hot air balloon outing a try.
-
Step 6
Partake in a local custom or cuisine that you might not normally indulge in. Whether it’s taking a shot at tango dancing or downing some wheat grass, you’ll be glad you tried it, even if you didn’t necessarily like it!
-
Step 7
If in doubt, try “flipism,” as in letting the toss of a coin determine your decision. It will add an element of chance to your travels and is particularly great for the indecisive traveler.
