We all have or almost have hit a deer? Majority of the time it's because the deer jumps out in front of us out of nowhere. I'm sharing my tip(s) that my dad has taught me, and having remember what he said-it worked.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Yourself
  • Memory of importance!
  1. Step 1

You can slow down as much as you can but it's still possible you may hit it. I am suggesting to slow down as much as you possibly can.

  2. Step 2

DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT swerve to miss it, this only makes it worse for you and your vehicle. Just head straight and hit the deer, DO NOT swerve! The saying is "It's better to hit the deer, then to swerve and cause more damage"

  3. Step 3

If you decide to swerve to miss it, especially if your near banks, there's a big possibility that you could roll your vehicle and hurt yourself seriously to even death. This is the MOST important step when encountering with a deer.

Tips & Warnings
  • I'm not saying your going to "NOT" hit the deer, but this helps cause as much less damage as you possibly can. This is one great thing having on your insurance, especially if the deer jumps out in front of YOU! Which has happened to me.

on 7/1/2009 I've lived in an area with a high deer population for 30 years and have never ever hit one. I have learned the best way to avoid hitting them is to not only go the speed limit or below this, but to use high beams- look out for their reflecting eyes, and to honk the horn every few minutes in areas where you suspect wildlife(you may want to do this during the day as well-they're still about), they have amazing hearing and through the sound of the car horn, can track the direction and motion of your car from great distances. I noticed areas where I do not travel regularly doing this, I often see deer carcasses and other dead wildlife beside the road.
