Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Things You’ll Need:
- A large music selection
- Plenty of time
- Selection committee
Step1
The high school graduation ceremony and the graduation song are for everyone. The song that is chosen must be a decision that is reached with fairly and democratically. A good way to vote for the graduation song is to have multiple elections “voting out” one song, then another, and then another, until you have the winner.
Step2
The graduation song that is chosen must be reflective over the past years, but it also should either look forward to the future with a sense of hope or bring a sense of closure to the high school experience.
Step3
A good graduation song must be familiar enough that people can relate to it. An obscure, unknown graduation song, regardless of how meaningful, will leave an audience flat.
Step4
This is a once in a life-time event. Some students will go onto college, but college graduations are different, and some students choose not participate in college graduations. Songs must be suggested that capture the solemnity and importance of the day.
Step5
Some great songs to get you started are:
"Forever Young (Candlelight Mix)" by Ella
"A Moment Like This" by Kelly Clarkson
"I Will Remember You" by Sarah McLachlan
"My Wish" by Rascal Flatts
"Today" by Smashing Pumpkins
"So Hard to Say Goodbye" by Boyz II Men
"100 Years" by Five for Fighting
"I Believe I Can Fly" by R. Kelly
"Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)" by Green Day
"Graduation" by Vitamin C
