Things You'll Need:
- Dog crate
- Leash
- Collar
- Patience

Step 1
Housetraining a puppy isn't as daunting a task as it first seems. IN fact, it's relatively simple. First, you'll need a dog crate. One that is just big enough for the dog to stand and turn around. Much bigger than that, and the dog may not identify with the crate as his den.
You'll also need a leash and basic dog collar. -
Step 2
Place the dog on the leash, and keep him with you at all times. This step takes patience and dedication, but it will pay off greatly. You must control your dogs environment and actions. You need to watch the dog like a hawk. Even turning your back for a moment and allowing the pup to pee on the floor can set back your housetraining.
-
Step 3
Make sure to take your dog out often, and to the spot you want him to eliminate. As soon as he finished peeing or pooping, reward him with lots of praise and affection. If he doesn't go within 5 minutes, bring him inside fr 15 minutes, then back out to try again.
-
Step 4
For the times where you can't watch him closely, take advantage of the dog's natural tendency to avoid soiling his den. We do this by placing him inside his den (crate).
-
Step 5
If you follow this advice consistently, your pup should be housetrained within a few weeks. Just remember that a young puppy does not have the same bladder or bowel capacity as older dogs, so they have to go out more often. You can't rightfully expect your puppy to spend 8 hours inside without the opportunity to eliminate.
