Online newspaper archives are an amazing source for historical research. Whether you are looking for information on cowboys and Indians, outlaws or heroes, famous people, world-changing events, day-you-were-born headlines, everyday items like advertisements, or just some information on your family's history, old news archives are the place to look. You can pay top dollar for subscription databases, but there are plenty of free newspaper archives available. Here are some terrific resources for finding old stories on the wild, wild West.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy
Step1
Take a look at the free online newspaper archives from the Casa Grande, Arizona Newspaper Archives from 1912-2007. Casa Grande is just outside of Phoenix, and you can find the whole history of 20th century Arizona in the archives. There's a lot here, with full text search and full image retrieval. (See resource links, below)
Step2
Google News Archives is another great resource, and (believe it or not) covers news stories from the 1700's to the present day. There's tons of stuff here from Arizona, and pretty much everywhere else. Searching is free, and you'll see snippets of the stories in the search results. But you may have to pay to see the full the article, as some sites are subscription-only.
Step3
For other free newspaper archives for Arizona, throughout the US, and around the world, check out the collection of links in the resources section, directly below.
