Conch Salad

Here is another one of my Daddy's recipe's, Conch Salad. The Queen Conch or Pink Conch is a gastropod, a soft-bodied type of mollusk that is protected by a very hard shell. The conch is found in warm shallow waters in grass beds of the Caribbean Sea. The flavor and texture of conch salad is amazing. It is a wonderful refreshing and tasty salad that will enhance any summer picnic or meal.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • conch
  • onions
  • green pepper
  • tomatoes
  • celery
  • lemons
  • limes
  • crushed red pepper
  • black pepper
  1. Step 1

You will not find conch at the corner store or supermarket, unless you live in an ethnic community. I usually purchase conch at a fish market. Use about a pound of conch for this salad.

  2. Step 2

Rinse and dice 1lb of conch into small pieces and place in a bowl. Take your time cutting the conch, as it is kind of rubbery like clams. Use a sharp knife.

  3. Step 3

Dice green pepper, celery, tomato, onions in small pieces, a little smaller than the conch.

  4. Step 4

Thoroughly mix the conch, green pepper, celery, tomato, and onions together.

  5. Step 5

Take the juice of 2 fresh lemons and pour over the conch salad. Add crushed pepper, salt and pepper to taste.

  6. Step 6

For the best flavor, allow the conch salad to sit a few hours to overnight in the fridge.

Tips & Warnings
  • Bahamian Conch salad is similar to eating clams, but a lot better.
  • Bahamian Conch salad is expensive, don't waste it on people who don't like to try different foods.

on 11/2/2008 I've been always very interested in exotic food. Well, this is definitely one for me! In my country, Hungary, we don't have a sea, and people don't eat too much seafood. Even though, I've been living here for more than 10 years, I still find recipes like this one exciting to my taste buds and fantasy. Thanks for sharing! 5*
