Lots of water can be saved when washing clothes by reversing a couple of steps. Most folks want to toss in the clothes, turn on the machine, walk away, and wait for the buzz.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

Step1
Set washer to appropriate temperature for clothing.
Step2
Set washer for appropriate size load. The larger the load the better the savings.
Step3
Turn washer on and allow it to begin to fill with water.
As it is filling put in appropriate amount of detergent.
Step4
Once the washer has filled and began to agitate stop it. ..MAKE SURE YOU STOP THE MACHINE.
Then put in your clothes you have selected to wash.
Step5
Enjoy saving on your water bill!
Step6
The reason this saves you water and money is because most machines use water levels to determine when to begin the wash cycle. If you put your clothes in first, up to a third of the water can be soaked up by the clothes before the machine begins to fill.

Tips & Warnings

  • The downside is that if you close the lid or door it could continue through the cycle WITHOUT any clothes.
  • Make sure stop the machine before you attempt to add clothes
