On Feburary 17th, 2009, Analog TV broadcast will be taken off line. This Articale will help you determin if you need a converter box, and if so, how to get one.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Digital Converter Box
  • TV
  • Antenna
  1. Step 1

    To Determine if you even need a box, you need to know how you receive your programming now. If you receive cable or satilite service YOU WILL BE UNAFFECTED. If you receive your programming via over the air antenna, you may need a DTV converter box.

  2. Step 2

    If you do receive your tv programming over the air with an antenna, and your TV does not have an "ATSC" Tunner in it you will need a DTV converter box.

  3. Step 3

    Now that you know you need this box, you have three ways to apply for a government coupon that will save you $40 on up to two boxes per household. You can get these online (link supplied below)

  4. Step 4

    You can take this coupon into any electronics retailer (Best Buy, Target, Wal-Mart, ect) and use it towards a converter box. These will retail for around $60

Tips & Warnings
  • You will need one for every TV in your house
  • If You have cable or satillite service, you will be waisting your $ on a converter box.

on 10/22/2008 I have RCN cable however, I cannot get any TV without a cable box. You say I shouldn't need the box if I already have cable.
