How to Reduce your Car Gasoline Bills

I can remember the days (mid 80s) when I first began to drive when gasoline prices were as low as 69 cents per gallon (not even a dollar). With prices far exceeding this these days, I am utterly frustrated and disgusted with how our government has done so little to prepare the US for such a hit. One would have assumed that the government would have learned a lesson from the 1970s gas shortage. Oh well, no use crying over spilled milk. Here some useful tips on how to save money on gas.

1. First, try to use the freeway as much as possible as engines are optimized for the speed limit (or close to it). Freeways also take you to locations faster, thus saving not only on time but on gas.
2. Try to plan multiple trips into one trip. This will minimize the redundant movement over the same miles. Try to wait till the end of the week to make one large grocery shopping spree rather than multiple ones during the week.
3. See if you can plan vacations or trips together with friends or family using a larger vehicle owned by one of these members. And other to share the cost of gas and car maintenance.
4. Whenever possible, especially for long distances, use cruise control. This will help decrease the amount of acceleration movements which is one of the main culprits for increased fuel use.
