How to Tune Up Your Car's Performance

Tuning up your car can be super easy for those who know their way around an engine. Here are the basics.

Things You'll Need

• Socket set and wrench
• Screwdrivers
• Set of wrenches
• Spark plug socket
• A pair of rubber-handled pliers

Instructions

1. Cover all of your regular maintenance problems such as changing your oil and checking your fluids.

2. Change your spark pugs, spark plug wires, distributer cap and cylinoids. If you have a newer car, you may need to switch out your relay box, which is used instead of a distributer. Check your car's timing because it could be one of your biggest losses of power.

3. Replace the gaskets on your intake manifold and exhaust manifold. Replace the oil pan's gasket. This will increase the compression of the engine block.

4. Replace your air filter with a K&N air filter, which is an oil air filter. This will increase your performance up to 20%.

Tips & Warnings

• Make sure you detach the battery fully before detaching the spark plugs.

• Avoid using stiff tools when removing the gaskets because you will scratch the manifold.
