With professional leagues and paid sponsorships, paintball is a sport growing in both popularity and prestige. However, at its core, it hasn't lost its original intention: an afternoon of strategy, teamwork and fun with friends and families. Winning a recreational paintball game is much different than winning a tournament match. The speed is different, the goals are different, and above all, the enemy is different. In fact, there is no enemy. Read on to learn how to win a recreational paintball game.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Paintball markers
  • Paintballs
  • Designated playing area
  • A large group of friends
  1. Step 1

Gather a group of friends. Most paintball venues can accommodate anywhere from groups of six to groups of over 20, making paintball the perfect outing for friends, families or co-workers. You don't need your own safety equipment, markers or even paintballs. All you need to bring is a positive attitude and a desire to wreak some havoc.

  2. Step 2

Find a venue. Paintball fields are scattered across the country. There's usually one in driving distance of any large city. Venues will provide the equipment, the referees and the space. For large groups, reservations are usually required in advance. Smaller groups can simply walk on during designated times and join up with other smaller groups.

  3. Step 3

Pick a game. There are many variations of paintball that can be played. The best game to play depends on numerous factors, including the amount of participants, the experience level of the group and the type of course. For recreational games, elimination paintball is the most popular choice, as the rules are simple: eliminate every player on the opposing team. However, capture the flag and king of the hill are other popular choices, particularly for larger groups.

  4. Step 4

Discuss the rules. Paintball venues will provide referees for every recreational game. The referees will discuss safety regulations and game rules, and they were ensure that every participant has proper gear and attire. Paintball games between friends, family or co-workers, while still strategic and competitive, are not intended to hurt anyone, and the referees will always monitor each game closely to make sure every player is safe.

  5. Step 5

Have fun. No matter the game, no matter the venue, winning in recreational paintball is simple: have fun. Whether it is a company outing, a family reunion, or a Saturday with friends, a game of paintball should be exciting, exhilarating and, above all, unforgettable. Dead or alive, exhausted or ready for more, if everyone involved can leave with a smile on his or her face, than no one is a loser.

Tips & Warnings
  • Be prepared for a long day. Most venues rent out the facilities to large groups for half days or full days, so pack accordingly, including a change of clothes, plenty of water and lunch. In fact, many venues have grilling areas, so come with enough hamburgers and hot dogs for everyone.
  • Never play too seriously. Remember, just because you may be experienced does not mean everyone else is. In recreational games, always play to the level of the weakest player. Otherwise, not everyone will have a good time, and more importantly, someone could get hurt.
