Step 1
Find your personal grip. This means that you need to stand up and place your feet a shoulder's width apart. Hang your arms straight down and let them hang naturally. Notice how your left thumb is positioned. If it is turned to the right, you need to place your left thumb on the right side of the club. If it is turned to the middle then place your left thumb on the middle of the club (Switch this if you are left handed).
-
Step 2
Find a position for your left thumb by experimenting until comfortable. Just be sure not to have your thumb point straight down even if it feels comfortable, as it will inhibit a good swing.
-
Step 3
Open the fingers of your right hand. Face your hand so that it is square with the club face. Now notice the lifeline on your palm and place it right over your left thumb. Wrap your fingers around the shaft with your right forefinger hooked a little extended as if on a trigger.
-
Step 4
Now you can finalize your grip basically in three ways: the Vardon Grip, the interlocking grip or the baseball grip. The Vardon, named for Harry Vardon, where you piggyback the pinkie finger of your right hand on top of the forefinger of your left hand. The interlocking grip, where you interlace the pinkie finger on your right hand with the forefinger of the left hand. The baseball grip is where all 10 fingers are securely on the shaft, as if you were holding a baseball bat. You choose.

Step 5
Now just play around with these grips until you find what you like and claim it as your own.
