Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Things You’ll Need:
Step1
Pharmacy chains can be very expensive and inconsistent. It doesn't seem to make sense, but the prices on the same medicine from the same chain will cost differently if bought in Montana versus Idaho. But in any case, they will still be costly if from a chain. Try going to an independent pharmacy. These independents have much lower overheads and can be very competitive. Many of these can be found in a town center or you can look them up in a phone book or do an on-line search in your area.
Step2
If possible, ask for help from a relative or friend living in Canada or Mexico. Drugs (the legal ones) are much less expensive in those areas. You can also visit those areas and purchase the medicine (assuming travel costs are less than the costs of the medicine).
Step3
Ask the pharmacists for any discounts or specials they may have. If you know the pharmacist well, he/she may go out of his/her way to help you out. Also, ask if there are any programs to help financially strapped people. There may be government sponsored programs to possibly even make them free to poor folks or those in situations where they are experiencing a financial crisis.
