How to tell your friend their crush doesn't like them

It's painful to see your friend fawning over a crush who clearly has no interest in them. You are torn between wanted to help and not wanting to hurt your friend's feelings. Fortunately, there is a way to do both.

Instructions

1. Make a plan to hang out with your friend in a place you can be alone but is casual and comfortable, such as your favorite coffee shop or restaurant, or just one of your houses.

2. Go about your visit with your friend, chatting normally while looking for a way to turn the conversation towards the crush. Make sure to keep your friend in a good mood.

3. When the moment arises and the crush has been brought up or you can easily segue into a conversation about the crush, begin by telling your friend that you wanted to talk to them about the person in question. Try to make this sound as casual as you can.

4. Tell you friend that you don't think the crush is worth your friend's time. Tell your friend a few things that you have noticed about the person in question that you know they will not like, such as behavior you have noticed or opinions the crush might have that doesn't jive with your friend. Be honest about this. If there is nothing that you have noticed that fits in this category, skip to the next section.

5. Tell your friend that it seems obvious to you that her crush is, for some unknown reason, not interested in a romantic relationship. Roll your eyes at this and make sure that it is clear that you think your friend is amazing and this is the crush's problem.

6. Remind your friend that they don't have to agree with you, but you just wanted to let them know how you felt about it, because you care about them and it pains you to see them wasting their time on someone who isn't that great anyway.

7. After you have said your piece, let the subject go and talk about something else. The ball is in your friend's court now.
