HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

So gift wrapping isn't your strength. That doesn't mean you can't create a beautifully wrapped present. And if it's oddly shaped, that just gives you freedom to decide what shape you want it to be! There are several ways to wrap that strangely shaped object that you know is going to be the perfect gift.

From Quick Guide: Packaging Basics
Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Bubble wrap
  • Transparent tape
  • Box with lid (optional)
  • Gift bag (optional)
  • Wrapping paper (optional)
  • Ribbon and/or a bow (optional)
  1. Step 1

Decide what shape you want to end up with. This should probably be based upon what supplies you have and how large the object is. Once you have an idea, start wrapping with bubble wrap. Tape it to hold the wrap in place and keep wrapping and padding until you have a regular shape.

  2. Step 2

Decide if it will fit into a box. Then use more bubble wrap or colored tissue paper and pack it tightly into the box. Wrap as usual.

  3. Step 3

Consider a gift bag. There are all kinds of sizes and shapes and materials, something for everything from small jewelry items to small appliances. Again, securely fit the gift into the bag by using additional bubble wrap or colored tissue paper.

  4. Step 4

Bubble wrap it to resemble a completely different shaped object. If it's a tall vase, fatten the middle until you have almost a ball-shaped object. Then proceed with a box or bag. Or, wrap it in several layers of gift paper, each overlapping, then stick a bow on it. The whole idea is that even once they reach the bubble wrap, they'll have no idea what it is unless they keep going.

  5. Step 5

Lastly, if the object is small consider wrapping it into another shape, then putting that into a box, then bubble wrapping that box into another shape. End by packing that odd shape into another box or a bag with colored tissue paper.

Tips & Warnings
  • The whole point to a wrapped gift is the surprise aspect. Have fun with that and make it hard to guess!
  • Remember that the more effort you put into making it fun, the more the gift will mean. After all, it takes most of its meaning from the fact that it's YOU giving it!
  • Don't worry about it looking professional, whatever that means.
