Put your computer and Internet to work. Go online and look in various job and career websites. A partial list of links is provided below this article. If you have not already, have your resume formatted and updated in Microsoft Word. Pay special attention to how to apply, either with an email attachment, cut and paste in a message, by paper or plain text. State on your employment objective that you are seeking to work from home or telecommute.

Visit the hospital websites in your area. Many will allow you to work from home, provided you have the experience they are seeking. For more information, inquire with the human resources department.

Update your training, skills and certification if needed.

Inspect your home office and see that you have the proper equipment installed. This includes computer software, transcription machine, headset, work area, computer and anything else that pertains to your job. Decide ahead of time if the employer will reimburse you for needed equipment and supplies.

Advertise on Craigslist in your area to let employers know you are seeking a position. Spell out whether you would like part- or full-time and state your specialties.

I rated but did not run. :o) I would suggest that (see step 4) the person seeking the transcription job not purchase any equipment before being accepted for a particular job unless there is a certainty of using it outside that job. Many hospitals and transcription services provide computers and other equipment needed. Thanks for the article. -
