Learn how to make your own fruity potpourri.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • orange peel
  • lemon peel
  • cookie sheet
  • knife
  • apple
  • resealable plastic bag
  • small and large measuring spoons
  • nutmeg or other sweet-smelling spice
  • salt
  1. Step 1

Shred the lemon and the orange peel into small pieces as you are peeling it off the fruit. Set the pieces on the cookie sheet.

  2. Step 2

Cut the apple into small pieces and add them to the pile on the cookie sheet.

  3. Step 3

Spread your fruits and peels on the cookie sheet so that they are not overlapping eachother and they form a thin layer. Turn the oven on to 250 degrees and place the cookie sheet in the oven.

  4. Step 4

Let your fruits/peels bake until they are dry. This should take a couple of hours. Check on it every half-hour. Remember you want your peels DRIED NOT COOKED. They should NOT sizzle or shrivel too quickly. If this happens, turn the over temperature down a little bit.

  5. Step 5

Once dry, remove the cookie sheet from the oven. Let it cool, and put it all into a resealable plastic bag. Add one small measuring spoonful of nutmeg and one large measuring spoonful of salt. Seal the bag and shake it well. Allow to sit overnight.

  6. Step 6

Now you can use your homemade potpourri!!

Tips & Warnings
  • You MUST add the salt to the mixture. The salt helps absorb any moisture not evaporated in the oven!
