In recent years, the game of paintball has grown in popularity, especially among younger males. With compressed-gas-powered markers, participants shoot opponents with liquid-filled paintballs in a paramilitary environment. While violent in nature, paintball is a relative safe sport thanks to specific equipment and safety rules, and the strategy involved in winning can challenge even the quickest-thinking athlete. Read on to learn how to win a game of paintball.

  1. Step 1

Choose the game. For every game of paintball, there is a specific way to win: but victory is always sweet. Divide the teams, discuss the rules and always make sure everyone, including the referees, are on the same page. Once the variation has been decided on, give it all you've got.

  2. Step 2

Capture the flag. Like the childhood game, Capture the Flag involves two teams each trying to capture the opposing team's flag. The captured flag must be hung on the winning team's own flag station. During the game, normal elimination is in effect: if a team eliminates the entire opposing team, they will have no problem capturing the flag.

  3. Step 3

Eliminate the enemy. Elimination games are some of the most well-known games of paintball. Whether played on a Speedball field or in the woods, Elimination paintball is simple: eliminate the enemy team before your team is eliminated.

  4. Step 4

Rule the hill. In King of the Hill play, two teams attempt to capture one or more bases. The team who protects that base or bases for the longest amount of time wins.

  5. Step 5

Aim for the vitals. A variation of Elimination paintball, only direct hits to the head, chest or back count as eliminations in Vital paintball. Special gear is worn to help decide if a vital organ has been hit.

  6. Step 6

Become a mutant. Another variation of Elimination paintball, Mutants paintball involves a team of humans and a team of mutants. When a human is eliminated, he or she becomes a mutant. Eliminated mutants only sit out for a few minutes, and the game ends when all human players have been turned.

  7. Step 7

Protect the president. In President paintball, one player on each team is elected the president, and each team must protect their president while also trying to eliminate the opposing team's president.

Tips & Warnings
  • When deciding which game to play, take into consideration the players and environment. Some games are better played in the woods while others benefit from the smaller size of a Speedball field. And beginner players will be more likely to enjoy a game with simpler rules.
  • Always play safe. No matter the game, certain safe practices should be universal. These include the use of proper safety equipment and legal markers and balls, and the strict adherence to safety rules. Victory is not as sweet when someone is seriously hurt in the process.
