    Fantasy Baseball Trading 101

  1. Step 1

When you are looking to make a trade in fantasy baseball, you first must research your league rosters. Who has an extra catcher, pitcher, or whatever position you are looking to fill? These owners are the ones most likely to trade with you. Find out who has what you want and make them an offer.

  2. Step 2

The next thing to remember is that fantasy baseball owners can be shrewd. Beware of the fantasy baseball owner that wants your superstars. They will often offer what looks like a ton of great players for your one superstar in the hopes that you will bite. When you look at the trade closely, it may not be all that it seems. Look closely to make sure that it is not injury prone players, or worse still, players that are already hurt. Also, shy away from older players that do not play everyday.

  3. Step 3

Look for that player that is due for a breakout. Alex Rodriguez is a fine example. Do not try to acquire him while he is red hot and hitting .400. Wait until he is in a slump and struggling a little. Then you might get better results and return on your investment.

  4. Making the Offer

  5. Step 1

Fantasy baseball owners are often partial to their favorites. Offer them players that are near their heart, and they will sometimes pull the trigger for sentimental reasons. Conversely, do not trade for players simply because you like them. Make sure they are a good fit for your roster, and will help you win.

  6. Step 2

Comb the waiver wire before making any trades. You will need to be certain that you can not fill the spot you need there before trading away a quality player. Often, the waiver wire will provide you with a good substitute.

  7. Step 3

Offer less than you think they will give, and let them make you a counter offer. This has always been effective in fantasy baseball and will often give you an alternate trade that you like better than your original offer. Never send a no-brainer trade the first time out.

  8. Step 4

Finally, when you make an offer, make certain that you are improving your team without taking a dip in another area. Fantasy baseball is about balance. If you increase your home runs, but lose speed, you are shooting yourself in the foot. Make sure you are not just running in circles.
