How to throw a swingin' latin party

Only someone who is loco would turn down a chance to dance, laugh and eat at a bash with a festive Latin flair. You can throw that swingin’ Latin party with a little imagination and few tips.

Instructions

1. Prepare your house. Deck your halls with festive streamers in bold colors, Mexican folk art, posters and colorful candles featuring patron saints. Put out a welcome mat in Spanish, art inspired by Dio de los Muertos and anything featuring Frida Kahlo. Also make room for a piñata and a dance floor, outside if necessary.

2. Prepare your guests. Send out invitations in Spanish, accompanied by an English translation if they need it. Tell them to dress in colorful, comfortable costumes and wear their dancing shoes.

3. Play that swingin’ Latin rhythm. Hire a mariachi if you can afford it. If not, borrow or invest in some catchy Latin tunes.

4. Eat! Offer up Latin foods including empanadas, quesadillas and fried plantain. Spicy salsa and chips are also a must.

5. Drink. For those wishing to imbibe, have frozen margaritas, Mexican beer and plenty of tequila on hand. For those who do not drink, have papaya juice and flavored coconut milk available.
